The Borders Distillery

The Borders Distillery®, the first Scotch Whisky distillery in the Scottish Borders since 1837, was commissioned in March of 2018. This new distillery is dedicated to making great whisky and to capturing the spirit of the Borders.

Address:

The Borders Distillery, Commercial Road, Hawick TD9 7AQ

This distillery is included as part of our Dumfries, Galloway & The Borders Tour.

Hawick is the home of Cashmere, Tweed and Borders Whisky, and our distillery sits right in the heart of an untouched region of Scotland. Access from the A7 from the north and south and the A68 from the east. Car parking is available at the distillery, and there is designated spaces for blue-badge holders. Our distillery cannot accommodate coaches, so we ask larger groups to please use Hawick’s public parking in the Common Haugh. It is signposted from the A7 and is only a few minutes from the distillery.

The X95 and 95 bus services run from Edinburgh to Carlisle. The Borders Railway is now open, running from Edinburgh to Tweedbank; for Hawick, alight at Galashiels and take the X95 or 95 bus. Alternatively, local taxi services are available.

Podcast:

We interviewed John Fordyce, Co-Owner of The Borders Distillery, in our July 2020 podcast.

John tells us why he chose Hawick for the site of the distillery, why both the refurbished building and their focus on sustainability are so important to them, and why he thinks the industry should market blends with the same energy they market single malts.

Experiences:

Visit our distillery in Hawick and take a walk around this amazing building. See whisky production in action and gain an insight into a working commercial distillery. Occupying the site of the former Hawick Electric Company, we have undertaken a careful and complete renovation of the building to a fully functioning distillery. Please note tours run seasonally, so please check directly with the distillery before booking a tour.
