Our Malt of the Month is the Glen Ord Celebratory Bottling
The Singleton of Glen Ord Celebratory bottling is a limited edition with only 3000 bottles ever produced. It is available to purchase exclusively at the distillery itself.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Deep, rich amber with ruby lights. Good beading, viscosity and legs.
Nose: The nose-feel is rich and mellow, with light prickle. The aroma yield stop-notes that suggest dried fruits in lightly fortified wine and crystalised orange peel, with mid-notes of vanilla fudge, on a faint sandalwood base. Taken together, they evoke a rich, moist and fruity Christmas cake with a waxy wrapper. There are faint hints of ash and toffee in the development, while a drop of water brings up the classic creamy smooth note, again suggesting vanilla fudge.
Body: Medium.
Palate: The texture is embracing and smoothly creamy. The taste, sweet at heart, dries gently in time. Toothsome and well balanced, it suggests fruit-laced toffee cut with warming, vibrant white pepper spice. A drop of water cleans up the palate, leaning more towards fruit itself, such as orange peel or a dry clementine, and reveals the toffee to be vanilla fudge, but does not alter the overall profile.
Finish: Long, warming and lightly drying, with white pepper spice and a mouth-cooling aftertaste. With water, still longer and smoother and yet also still spicy; pepper lingers to the very end in the lightly drying aftertaste.
