Distillery and Whisky News Apr '19

Welcome to our April edition of Distillery and Whisky News, packed full of whisky loveliness.

We've got info on coming events including whisky's answer to Christmas - World Whisky Day - as well as news from our Distillery of the Month, the Strathisla Distillery in Banffshire. So grab a dram and read on!

DISTILLERY OF THE MONTH: STRATHISLA

Strathisla, the spiritual home of Chivas, is the oldest working distillery in the Scottish Highlands, dating back to 1786

Our favourite feature of the Strathisla Distillery is their Chivas Blending Tour.

This is a pretty unique experience where, in addition to finding out all about the world of Chivas Regal, touring the distillery, and tasting a few drams, you also have the opportunity to create your own blend!

Find out more about the Strathisla Distillery and the other tours available on DistilleryTours.scot or visit the Strathisla website to book.

Whisky's answer to Christmas is back on 18 May - and we can't wait to take part.

If you've not heard of World Whisky Day before, you are in for a treat! World Whisky Day (or WWD for short) is one day every year to celebrate all things whisky, to join an event, to talk about how wonderful it is, and of course to drink it!

Events happen all over the world and you can run one too! Large or small, with everyone you've ever met or just you and your other half cosying up with a dram, tell people what you're up to through the power of hashtags using #WorldWhiskyDay on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. And register your event with the people at World Whisky Day to become an Event Champion!

"What are the nice people at DistilleryTours up to for WWD?" I hear you ask... We're looking forward to a lovely day at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in Edinburgh - maybe we'll see you there!

PLAN YOUR TRIP TO THE CAIRNGORMS AND BEYOND!

The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre offers daily hill trips

Scotland has a LOT to offer for all ages and interests and, this month, our tour covers the Cairngorms and Beyond!

The tour includes the distilleries of Tomatin, Speyside, Dalwhinnie, Royal Lochnagar and Glenlivet, which are (mostly) in the Cairngorms, with Tomatin being the outlier, hence the 'and Beyond'. Find out more about each of these distilleries at DistilleryTours.scot.

We've chosen the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre (with the caption ‘Reindeer are not just for Christmas!’ how can you resist?!), the Queen's holiday home Balmoral Castle, Abernethy Adventure Camp for the kids, and the Whisky Castle for the adults. Plus of course there's snow sports galore!

Check out full details of this and other tours, including accommodation tips, on our Plan Your Trip pages.

Scotland's Highland Whisky Festival is a celebration of whisky on the North Coast 500 route.

The Balblair, Clynelish, Glenmorangie, Old Pulteney, Dalmore, Singleton of Glen Ord, Tomatin and Wolfburn distilleries all take part, and will each showcase their centuries of tradition, process and craft through exclusive tastings, tours and events.

The festival takes place from 10th to 17th May 2019, with tickets available to book now through the Highland Whisky Festival website.
