Malt Of The Month June 2023 - Casks of Lindores Sherry Finish

The ‘Casks of Lindores’ releases were designed to be sold exclusively through selected stockists and are not for sale online, there are three releases, Bourbon, STR Wine Barriques and Sherry Cask. Here we take a closer look at the delicious Sherry Cask bottling.

The third Casks of Lindores bottling completes the set and was matured exclusively in Oloroso Sherry Butts from the area around the city of Jerez de la Frontera in Spain.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Auburn

Nose: Mellow fruity prunes, dates, molasse, touches of vanilla and milk chocolate

Palate: Mellow dried fruits, molasse, dark chocolate with layers of cinnamon and ginger combined with a pleasant nuttiness like walnuts and chestnuts. Smooth texture

Finish: Medium to long.

Bottled at the distillery without chill filtration and at Lindores bottling strength of 49.4%.

This whisky can't be bought online, but is offered by a wide variety of stockists across the UK and Europe. The distillery chooses to sell this way to ensure they support the local and small bottle shops who work so hard and rely on people coming in to explore their offering. Helen told us about the history of the monks at Lindores Abbey, how she and her partner raised the money to build a distillery and the importance of not being ‘Disney-fied’, their approach to bringing up people through their team at the distillery, and of course the release of their first Scotch malt whisky – the 1494!
