Ardbeg House
Ardbeg House is a unique whisky-led hotel in Port Ellen on the Isle of Islay, offering 12 individually designed bedrooms inspired by the history, legends and character of Ardbeg and the island itself. Guests can enjoy the Signature Restaurant, Islay Bar and Courtyard, with an Ardbeg Distillery tour or tasting included as part of every stay.
About Ardbeg House
Located in the heart of Port Ellen, Ardbeg House brings the character of Ardbeg whisky and Islay hospitality together under one roof. The hotel has been designed around the island’s stories, characters and whisky heritage, with each of its 12 bedrooms offering a distinctive theme and its own collection of details and hidden surprises.
Created in collaboration with Russell Sage Studio and Scottish and Islay artisans, the interiors incorporate materials and objects connected to the island and Ardbeg’s history. From reclaimed whisky still copper to handcrafted details and playful nods to Islay folklore, the hotel offers a stay that feels closely connected to its surroundings.
Ardbeg House is also designed as a base for exploring Islay, with Ardbeg Distillery just three miles away. Every hotel stay includes an Ardbeg Distillery tour when available, or an Ardbeg whisky tasting at the House if guests are unable to make the tour.
Stay at Ardbeg House
The hotel has 12 individually themed bedrooms and suites, ranging from cosy rooms full of character to larger spaces designed for guests looking for more room to relax. Several rooms can be configured with either a king-size bed or twin beds, while four rooms also feature a sofa bed for an additional guest.
The Legend Room is fully accessible, while selected rooms – including the Fèis, Legend and Rebel rooms – are dog friendly for an additional charge. Dogs are also welcome in the Islay Bar and Courtyard.
Breakfast is included with stays, along with a dram on arrival and an Ardbeg Distillery tour or tasting. Check-in is from 4pm and check-out is at 11am.
The Signature Restaurant
The Signature Restaurant celebrates Islay’s natural larder with modern Scottish cooking and an Ardbeggian twist. The menu focuses on local produce from the island and surrounding waters, with dishes showcasing ingredients from Islay farmers, fishermen and producers.
The restaurant serves dinner Wednesday to Sunday from 6pm to 9pm, with a private dining room also available for intimate gatherings and celebrations by prior arrangement.
The Islay Bar
The Islay Bar revives the spirit of an old Port Ellen watering hole, offering a relaxed meeting place for hotel guests, locals and visitors.
Whisky is naturally at the heart of the bar, with an extensive selection of Ardbeg and other malts from Islay and beyond, including occasional exclusive Ardbeg bottlings. The drinks menu also features cocktails, wine, beer and non-alcoholic options, while the bar serves lunch, light bites and casual food throughout the day.
The bar is also a place to experience the social side of Ardbeg House, with live music and events adding to its relaxed island atmosphere.
Ardbeg Whisky Experiences
A stay at Ardbeg House provides an opportunity to explore the whisky at its source. Guests can arrange a tour of Ardbeg Distillery, located around three miles from the hotel, with the experience taking visitors behind the scenes of one of Islay’s most famous whisky producers.
The distillery tour explores Ardbeg’s whisky-making process and history before finishing with a dram. If guests cannot fit the distillery visit into their itinerary, the House can arrange an Ardbeg whisky tasting instead.
Ardbeg House also offers a range of packages and experiences combining accommodation with food, whisky and activities, including whisky-focused stays and special events.
The Courtyard
The Courtyard provides an outdoor space where guests can relax, eat and drink. The setting continues the Ardbeg theme, with an outdoor grill and a more informal atmosphere that works particularly well for enjoying the island’s food and whisky in the open air.
