Distillery and Whisky News August 2021 - Glenturret
Hello whisky lovers and welcome to our August edition of Distillery and Whisky News.
We love talking about whisky (a shock to you all we're sure), but what we love even more is hearing other people talking about why they love whisky. This makes our podcast our absolute favourite thing - passionate people working in whisky and loving every minute of it.
If you've not listened before, our episode this month is with Lauren Mustard who looks after the Glenfiddich and Balvenie Distilleries. Check it out below, sit back, and listen to her passion.
DistilleryTours Podcast - Glenfiddich
This month we spoke to Lauren Mustard, Dufftown Distilleries and VIP Ambassador for William Grant & Sons, who looks after the Balvenie and Glenfiddich Distilleries.
Lauren tells us about the way Glenfiddich is experimenting with their whisky, the things she loves about both distilleries, and a charming denial of any family connection to the whisky industry, closely followed by several connections. She also tells us the story behind her favourite dram, the never-to-be-repeated, Snow Phoenix.
Thanks to CalMac for sponsoring the podcast - if you're visiting the islands this year check out calmac.co.uk for travel information and tourist inspiration.
Date with a Dram: Visit Moray & Speyside
We're delighted to announce that Visit Moray & Speyside have become our DistilleryTours.scot Partners and, to celebrate, we're running a very special competition with them for this month's Date with a Dram.
One lucky winner will win a two night stay for two people, including dinner, at the beautiful Knockomie Inn in Forres, pictured below, courtesy of owners Gavin and Penny Ellis and Visit Moray & Speyside.
But whatever will the lucky whisky-lover do while in Moray & Speyside? 🤔
Could you maybe visit one of the 60 distilleries in the area? Glen Moray, Benriach, Strathisla, GlenDronach, GlenAllachie, Glenfiddich, Aberlour, Cardhu, Cragganmore, Glenlivet, Royal Lochnager and Dalwhinnie, for example?...
Well OF COURSE we have a distillery tour to go with it. We're delighted to say that the Glenfiddich Distillery have kindly offered to provide a tour for the lucky couple, AND DistilleryTours.scot will also provide a bottle of Glenfiddich for the winners to take home!

Venue of the month: The Globe Inn

The Globe Inn in Dumfries
The Globe Inn in Dumfries has a wonderful history. Established in 1610, The Globe was the favourite howff of the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns, which he frequented after moving to Dumfriesshire from Ayrshire, around 1788, until he died in 1796.
The Globe is home not only to a fantastic range of whisky and a fine dining restaurant, but they also offer a Burns Tour of the bedchamber he stayed in, the snug where he drank and Mrs Hyslop's Kitchen where his food was made.
Their 1610 Restaurant is open Tue-Sat 12pm-3pm and 6pm-9.30pm, where Michelin-experienced chefs create a fusion of modern and classical dishes.
Their bar is open Tue-Sat 11am-11pm and, in addition to stocking over 300 world whiskies, their owners Annandale Distillery have created two of their own.
The Man O’ Sword – the award winning, smoulderingly smoky, Single Cask-Single Malt Scotch Whisky; and Man O’ Words – their highly regarded smooth and mellow Single Cask-Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Distillery of the Month: Glenturret

Glenturret Distillery in Perthshire
Set in the beautiful Perthshire countryside, the Glenturret Distillery, Scotland's oldest working distillery, is a unique whisky experience. The Glenturret single malt is still traditionally crafted today as it was over 250 years ago, by hand. Their immersive tour brings to life the fascinating history and leads visitors through the process, craft and skill required to create The Glenturret single malt.
There are two tours available - The Glenturret Tour takes you through the traditional art of making Glenturret Single Malt Whisky, which uses hand operated, time honoured methods, followed by a Glenturret tasting from their Distillery Whisky range.
Then discover if you have the skills to be a whisky maker with their Whisky Maker's Tour. Following an in-depth tour and a guided nosing and tasting session with four premium Glenturret single malts, your sensory skills are put to the test with their Malt Challenge. You're then guided in the art of blending your very own whisky, which you get to take home in a specially designed presentation box!
Find out more about the Glenturret Distillery and listen to our podcast with Jamie Morrison, on their dedicated page on the DistilleryTours.scot website.
