Distillery and Whisky News February 2023 - Clynelish

Hello whisky lovers, and welcome to our February edition of Distillery and Whisky News.

It's the first of the month, so let this be your warning that Valentine's Day is fast approaching. The love it or hate it celebration of romance may divide opinion (commercialised con or good excuse to show your love - you tell us), but one thing we can all agree on is our love of a good whisky. With that in mind, our gift suggestion further down the page should be a winner!

In this edition we also have the launch of our fantastic new Date With A Dram competition which this month is with Aberfeldy Distillery to win a bottle of Aultmore 10 Year Old, and we explore our latest Malt of the Month - a delicious pairing from Chivas Brothers' Distillery Reserve Collection.

Distillery Of The Month: Clynelish

Clynelish Distillery

Clynelish Distillery is located on the east coast of Sutherland, around one hour north of Inverness on the scenic North Coast 500 route. It boasts beautiful views of the North Sea and the hills to the north - where the Clynemilton burn runs over seams of gold in the rock. It is with this water that the distillery produces a fruity, waxy, slightly smoky, sea-spicy single malt.

Clynelish is one of the Four Corners distilleries of the Johnnie Walker brand, but its own rich Highland Malt is enjoyed around the world on its own right also.

Discover the mysterious and hidden spirit of the distillery's coastal Sutherland home and embark on the Clynelish Flavour Journey. If you crave a good mystery and long to explore flavour in new ways, this is the tour for you.

Take a trip through Clynelish’s dramatic story and flavourful field-to-glass whisky process. Your full-sensory tour culminates in a tutored whisky tasting of drams, a highball and a sweet surprise overlooking the spectacular coastal Sutherland landscape.

Find out more about Clynelish their whisky and tours on their dedicated page on the DistilleryTours.scot website.

Venue of the month: Scotch Whisky Experience

Scotch Whisky Society

The Scotch Whisky Experience is a five star visitor attraction at the top of Edinburgh's Royal Mile, where they have been inspiring visitors to Edinburgh about the joys of Scotch whisky for over 30 years.

Covering all aspects of Scotch whisky, visitors gain an insight into the centuries-old science of production, the art and craft of blending, and how such a small country has created a world-famous product. A breathtaking view of Scotland’s five whisky regions brings the geography and landscapes to life.

No visit is complete without the final tasting of your chosen whisky in the stunning whisky collection, one of the largest in the world, and arguably Edinburgh’s most beautiful room (at least in the eyes of any whisky lover!). This is the perfect journey through the world of Scotch whisky!

There are a variety of tour options, but the Platinum Tour caught our eye - a whisky lover's dream it involves an early evening tour with a tutored nosing and tasting of four single malts and one deluxe blended Scotch whisky.

On this tour you will learn about the production of Scotch whisky and be introduced to the aromas in whisky. You will also be permitted an extended viewing of one of the World’s Largest Collections of Scotch Whisky.

Find out more about The Scotch Whisky Society on its dedicated page at the DistilleryTours website.
