Distillery and Whisky News March 2025 - Speyburn

Hello whisky lovers, and welcome to our March edition of Distillery and Whisky News.

As I type this the sun is shining, the skies are blue and there is a real sense of spring in the air. Perhaps I shouldn't get ahead of myself too much though, as a friend reminded me just the other day, Scotland's classic 'second winter' has yet to appear... expect snowfall by next week!

All that aside, with Spirit of Speyside just round the corner, now is the time to start planning your trip to our whisky Mecca! With over 700 events, the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival has been attracting visitors from around the world since 1999. Every year, over 50 distilleries in the county of Moray showcase the unique taste of Speyside whisky.

By using our Plan Your Trip feature you can select multiple distilleries and download a map and directions direct to your inbox. Visit the bars, accommodation and shops dedicated to whisky in the area, and navigate from your choice of starting point.

Until next time...

Distillery Of The Month: Speyburn Distillery

Speyburn Distillery opened its doors to the public for the first time in 125 years as part of the 2023 Spirit of Speyside festival with tickets selling out in just 12 hours, it also received the ‘Best New Event Award’.

Off the back of that success the distillery opened its doors once more in 2024 and its 15 Year Old won the gold award in the 13 to 17 years old category.

This year, Speyburn will be hosting two events exclusive to Spirit of Speyside, featuring the return of its Speyburn After Hours event as well as an all-new experience - the Speyburn Manager's Cask Experience.

In the latter you will join Distillery Manager Euan Henderson and Senior Global Brand Ambassador Stuart Baxter for a truly special guided tasting in the historic dunnage warehouse. This exclusive experience gives you the chance to sample Speyburn in a setting that's as unique as the whisky itself.

Euan will personally lead you through the tasting, drawing straight from some of his favourite and oldest hand-selected casks, offering personal insights into the story behind each dram.

Find out more about Speyburn Distillery at its dedicated pages on the DistilleryTours.scot website.

Venue of the Month: The Globe Inn

The Globe Inn's rich history will send a shiver down your spine. Tour the rooms preserved as they would have been during the patronage of world-famous poet Robert Burns who ate, slept and held court at The Globe Inn in his remit as local Exciseman. Many original artefacts still remain and you can even sit in his chair and recite poetry where the bard once did himself.

Named the most historic pub in Scotland, you will enjoy a truly memorable experience. At 1610 Restaurant you can savour the fusion of modern and classical culinary delights, showcasing the finest local produce.

And lets not forget the whisky - the Globe has over 150 different drams available at all times.

Find out more about The Globe Inn on its dedicated page at the DistilleryTours website.
