Distillery Of The Month: Fettercairn

Fettercairn Distillery
Take a trip to Aberdeenshire and discover Fettercairn – the home of enlightened whisky making. From its very beginnings this distillery has done things a little differently in the pursuit of its distinctively tropical single malt whisky.
Since 1824 the distillery has gone to extraordinary lengths to capture the purest expression of its whisky’s character. The whisky’s tropical character owes a lot to a unique distillation process. A cooling ring sits at the top of the stills, drenching them with crystal clear mountain water, cooling the copper so only the finest vapours rise, a unique piece of ingenuity that has become a defining feature of the distillery.
Fettercairn has recently reopened a newly refurbished visitor centre and are inviting whisky-lovers to pay a visit and take a closer look on one of their fascinating distillery tours where you can sample a dram of Fettercairn alongside the distillery's whisky experts.
For a really special experience book the Enlightened Tour where you will pore over the detail of the whisky making process with a tour and tasting that last approximately 1 hour and includes taste of Fettercairn 12 YO, Fettercairn 12YO PX, Fettercairn 22YO and Fettercairn 28YO.
Find out more about Fettercairn Distillery, their whisky and tours on their dedicated page on the DistilleryTours.scot website.
Venue of the month: Inverurie Whisky Shop

Inverurie Whisky Shop
Much more than just a shop, the Inverurie Whisky Shop offers the complete experience when it comes to whisky. The Shop itself is home to more than 500 whiskies from across the globe, including their own exclusive whisky collection only available at the Shop. But that's the tip of the iceberg.
In addition, they host tastings in the Shop, at your home, your workplace, or wherever you'd like them to be. They arrange tours of distilleries in the Aberdeenshire and Speyside areas, including stop offs at hidden beauty spots for a quick refill of fine whisky. Their Private Bar above the Shop is available for hire, which is completely flexible and can be tailored to suit your occasion.
But the icing on the cake for us, is their Highland Whisky Academy - a week long holiday, including accommodation and travel, to immerse yourself in the world of Scottish whisky. Exploring distilleries and learning from the masters of the art of whisky making, whilst unmasking secrets and stories from the Aberdeenshire and Speyside whisky communities.
We rather love their quote - "a behind the scenes experience that will have you arriving with whisky on your mind, but leaving with it in your heart."

Date With A Dram: GlenDronach
This month's competition is with GlenDronach Distillery to win a bottle of their Port Wood Highland Single Malt.
GlenDronach has created a fruit-filled ten-year-old expression, with layers of ripe berries rolling into its signature long, lingering finish.
On the nose you will breathe in delightful waves of Victoria plum, bramble and strawberry jam with top notes of cherry blossom and honeysuckle on a base of sandalwood and ginger.
While to taste you will enjoy layers upon layers of rich fruits. Sip blackberry and roasted apple crumble with freshly baked gingerbread, developing into a baked orange and black cherry back-note.
Savour orange peel, sultana and cherry cake lingering into the richly fruity finish.
It really does sound delicious, and you could be our lucky winner in October!

Glasgow Calling!
Scotland's national drink will be centre stage at Scotland's national stadium on 12 November at Glasgow's Whisky Festival.
Taking place in Hampden, the festival puts Glasgow on the whisky map with an emphasis on Glasgow’s closest distilleries and the independent bottlers that belong to this great city. But it’s not just about Glasgow, as there will also be a collection of whisky from all of Scotland and the rest of the world.
Distillerytours.scot will be there too, so please do come by the stall and say hello - we will have plenty of tasty drams for you to try!
