Distillery and Whisky News October 2023 - Wolfburn

Hello whisky lovers, and welcome to our October edition of Distillery and Whisky News.

As we wave goodbye to summer, it's time to enjoy the change of season with crisp autumn days making their return. It is, in fact, the perfect time to enjoy Arran Distillery's Barrel of Apples cocktail, which is our Perfect Serve for October. Find out more below...

After taking a podcast break in September, we are back with a cracker! You are going to love listening to Glenturret's Global Brand Ambassador, Jamie Morrison enthuse about the distillery's various whisky expressions and its 'extremely rare range'. As it is Scotland's oldest working distillery, there was plenty to talk about in a historical sense, but as you'll hear this is a distillery very much focused on the future too.

We will be at the Edinburgh Whisky Festival on 14 October for which there are still tickets available. Treat yourself and enjoy an afternoon filled with hundreds of dreamy drams, food, exhibitions, live podcasts and barrel-building. Come on by and let us share some delicious whiskies by Dewars Aberfeldy, Wolfburn and Jura distilleries.

Until next time...

Distillery Of The Month: Wolfburn

Wolfburn hails from the most northerly town on the British mainland - Thurso, and its master craftsmen fashion their whisky the same way it has always been made: by hand, using only the finest ingredients, and without haste.

Wolfburn’s smooth and warming flavour stems from the unhurried way in which the spirit is made. Long fermentation is followed by gentle distillation, before the spirit is laid down in the best quality oak casks. The warehouses are beautifully dark and cool, providing the perfect environment for the spirit to mature into world-class single malt whisky.

At Wolfburn there isn't a visitor centre so when you visit you’ll see the inner workings of the distillery itself, where the master craftsmen make their delicious single malt whisky. Tours finish with a tasting of the various malts, and there’s the opportunity to buy bottles and Wolfburn merchandise. It's 100% worth the drive!

Venue of the month: Inverurie Whisky Shop

Much more than just a shop, the Inverurie Whisky Shop offers the complete experience when it comes to whisky. The Shop itself is home to more than 500 whiskies from across the globe, including their own exclusive whisky collection only available at the Shop. But that's the tip of the iceberg.

In addition, they host tastings in the Shop, at your home, your workplace, or wherever you'd like them to be. They arrange tours of distilleries in the Aberdeenshire and Speyside areas, including stop offs at hidden beauty spots for a quick refill of fine whisky. Their Private Bar above the Shop is available for hire, which is completely flexible and can be tailored to suit your occasion.

But the icing on the cake for us, is their Highland Whisky Academy - a week long holiday, including accommodation and travel, to immerse yourself in the world of Scottish whisky. Exploring distilleries and learning from the masters of the art of whisky making, whilst unmasking secrets and stories from the Aberdeenshire and Speyside whisky communities.

We rather love their quote - "a behind the scenes experience that will have you arriving with whisky on your mind, but leaving with it in your heart."

In our October episode we speak to Jamie Morrison, Glenturret Distillery’s Global Brand Ambassador.

Jamie tells us some of the history of Scotland’s oldest working distillery and also brings to life Glenturret’s whisky expressions and its ‘extremely rare range’.
