North of Inverness tour
Find out more about the distilleries and our recommendations of things to see and do in this area. Use the icons beside each distillery to create your perfect trip, and tag us on Facebook or Instagram with photos of your whisky journey!
This tour incorporates the Glen Ord, Dalmore, Glenmorangie, Balblair and Clynelish Distilleries.
We’ve suggested you spend six days on the North of Inverness tour, as there are six distilleries to see, but if you’re in a rush you could combine the Glenmorangie and Balblair tours in one day – the distilleries are less than a ten minute drive from one another.
Start with Glen Ord as the most southerly on this tour (check out their dedicated page for information on their tours and the 'Singleton of Glen Ord' single malt) and ‘work’ your way upwards.
Rogie Falls

Rogie Falls
The Rogie Falls near Tarvie are a beautiful stop off and walk after the Glen Ord distillery – there’s a salmon ladder and a suspension bridge over the river, both of which are well-worth the relatively short walk from the car park: Rogie Falls
Dornoch

Dornoch Beach
Back onto the A9, the Glenmorangie (check out their dedicated page for more information on their tours and their beautifully tall stills in their 'Highland Cathedral', and consider staying for a night or two at their beautiful hotel, Glenmorangie House) and Balblair distilleries await you in Tain, with Dalmore on the way, or if you prefer to spread them out over three days, hop across the Dornoch Firth to the 13th Century Dornoch Cathedral, the most northerly cathedral of mainland Britain; play a round on the Championship course at the Royal Dornoch Golf Club (do check availability in advance); or simply take a walk along Dornoch’s stunning coastline.
There's also the whisky bar at the Dornoch Castle Hotel - a must visit for any whisky aficionado. Specialising in rare and old vintage malt whiskies, all available to buy by the dram, you will want to spend plenty of time here sampling these old and rare bottles.
Dunrobin Castle

Dunrobin Castle
Dunrobin Castle is a short journey from the Clynelish Distillery (take a look at their dedicated page for information on The Clylelish Experience tour, which includes a tasting direct from a duty paid cask of Clynelish 1988), and offers falconry displays, museum, gardens, shop and tea room.
