Distillery and Whisky News December 2024 - Singleton of Glen Ord
Hello whisky lovers, and welcome to our December edition of Distillery and Whisky News.
We are embarking on a busy time for whisky lovers. Penning a wish list is a lengthy operation when there are so many fine drams on offer from all of Scotland's amazing distilleries! Perhaps you'd like to try a new blended whisky this year though, if so make sure to check out our Malt of the Month - Perpetuity Batch II from the Leith Export Co.
We also want to take some time to remind you about the Scotch Whisky Experience's Distillers Fair which will take place on Sunday 29th and Monday 30th December in Edinburgh. Following the Experiences’ Gold Tour, you will gain access to the Whisky Fair where you will have the chance to taste four of the distillers’ whiskies and find out some of the secrets of Scotland’s best loved brands and hidden gems. Sounds the perfect way to spend 'Twix-mas'!
All that is left to be said is that here DistilleryTours.scot we would like to take this early opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Slàinte!
Distillery Of The Month: The Singleton of Glen Ord
The Singleton of Glen Ord has been recently crowned the World’s Leading Whisky Distillery tour at the global travel Oscars – the World Travel Awards. The distillery scooped the award at a ceremony in November, firmly cementing its reputation as a must-visit world-class visitor destination.
The prestigious win follows The Singleton securing Scotland’s Best Whisky Distillery Tour, also awarded by the World Travel Awards earlier this year.
The distillery visitor experience re-opened its doors in 2022 and welcomed 78,000 visitors in 2024. Guests from the local community, Scotland, the UK and around the globe, have enjoyed the immersive experience of the classic distillery tour, as well as the delicious locally sourced food served in the deli and, of course, the perfectly crafted Singleton single malt.
Located on the renowned North Coast 500 route, the distillery and brand home offers a variety of experiences for visitors from near and far. From its Malt to Cask Tour (which offers visitors a unique chance to explore onsite drum maltings, sneak a glimpse into the bonded warehouse and even taste the award-winning malt straight from the cask) to The Singleton Distillery Tour, a guided introduction to the process to the superior malt, plus a tasting of three unique expressions.
Find out more about Glen Ord Distillery at its dedicated pages on the DistilleryTours.scot website.
Venue of the Month: The Lobster Pot
The Lobster Pot in Blackness offers home-cooked food and a warm atmosphere and makes for the perfect stop after a visit to Blackness Bay Distillery. Make a visit after a walk on the beach or a visit to the distillery and enjoy a drink or delicious meal - lunch or dinner are both available.
We like the look of the lobster and chips, or maybe you'd like to try the haggis fritters with a whisky and honey mayo. The menu is varied and includes nods to the distillery next door, with a Blackness rum affogato on offer for desert.
The pub was reopened in August 2019 after being closed for 11 years. It has been busy from day one with locals as well as visitors enjoying everything the delightful establishment has to offer.
Find out more about The Lobster Pot on its dedicated page at the DistilleryTours website.

DistilleryTours Podcast
In this episide we speak to Stewart Buchanan, Global Brand Ambassador for Benriach, Glendronach and Glenglassaugh distilleries.
Stewart's undeniable enthusiasm for all things whisky shines through as we learn more about the enduring histories of both Benriach and Glendronach.
But it is Glenlassaugh that we pay particular attention to, the small but perfectly formed distillery that is so heavily influenced by both land and sea and provides visitors with, in Stewart’s words: a ‘window to the past’ of whisky making.
Malt of the Month: Perpetuity Batch II
For our Malt of the Month we learn more about Perpetuity Batch II Blended Scotch Whisky.
Inspired by the concept of an infinity bottle, we found some exemplary casks of Single Grain and Single Malt Scotch whisky, and carefully blended them together.
Perfect Serve: Merry Berry Christmas
The Perfect Serve will titillate your tastebuds with a delicious whisky cocktail featured every month...
This festive cocktail from the Amber Restaurant team at The Scotch Whisky Experience combines the classic Christmas flavour of cranberries with the sweetness of a Bourbon whisky.
