Distillery Of The Month: Fettercairn

Fettercairn Distillery

Take a trip to Aberdeenshire and discover Fettercairn – the home of enlightened whisky making which will this year celebrate its 200th anniversary! From its very beginnings this distillery has done things a little differently in the pursuit of its distinctively tropical single malt whisky.

Since 1824 the distillery has gone to extraordinary lengths to capture the purest expression of its whisky’s character. The whisky’s tropical character owes a lot to a unique distillation process. A cooling ring sits at the top of the stills, drenching them with crystal clear mountain water, cooling the copper so only the finest vapours rise, a unique piece of ingenuity that has become a defining feature of the distillery.

Fettercairn has recently reopened a newly refurbished visitor centre and are inviting whisky-lovers to pay a visit and take a closer look on one of their fascinating distillery tours where you can sample a dram of Fettercairn alongside the distillery's whisky experts.

For a really special experience book the Enlightened Tour where you will pore over the detail of the whisky making process with a tour and tasting that last approximately 1 hour and includes taste of Fettercairn 12 YO, Fettercairn 12YO PX, Fettercairn 22YO and Fettercairn 28YO.

Find out more about Fettercairn's whisky and tours on its dedicated page on the DistilleryTours.scot website.

Venue of the month: Scotch Whisky Experience

The Scotch Whisky Experience is a five star visitor attraction at the top of Edinburgh's Royal Mile, where they have been inspiring visitors to Edinburgh about the joys of Scotch whisky for over 30 years.

Covering all aspects of Scotch whisky, visitors gain an insight into the centuries-old science of production, the art and craft of blending, and how such a small country has created a world-famous product. A breathtaking view of Scotland’s five whisky regions brings the geography and landscapes to life.

No visit is complete without the final tasting of your chosen whisky in the stunning whisky collection, one of the largest in the world, and arguably Edinburgh’s most beautiful room (at least in the eyes of any whisky lover!). This is the perfect journey through the world of Scotch whisky!

There are a variety of tour options, but Tasting Tales caught our eye - an experience showcasing Scotland’s wonderful larder matched with Scotch whiskies and their stories. You get to savour a fully tutored tasting of four Scotch whiskies paired with canapé-sized tasters. Delicious!

Find out more about The Scotch Whisky Experience on its dedicated page on the DistilleryTours website.
