Hello whisky lovers, and welcome to our September edition of Distillery and Whisky News.
September is a great time to explore Scotland, with the first hints of autumn in the air and distilleries offering a warm welcome as the seasons change. Whether it’s a weekend road trip or something a little different aboard the Caledonian Sleeper, there are plenty of ways to discover Scotland’s whisky country.
This weekend, DistilleryTours.scot will be heading to the Lomond & Clyde Whisky Festival on Saturday 5 September. There are still tickets available, so if you’re looking for a last-minute whisky day out, there’s time to join us.

Distillery of the Month - Blackness Bay
Set on the shores of the Firth of Forth in the historic village of Blackness, Blackness Bay Distillery offers something a little different from the traditional Scottish distillery visit. This independent distillery produces both whisky and rum using traditional pot still methods, with its historic setting adding plenty of character to the experience.
Visitors can discover how Blackness Bay's spirits are made, from locally sourced ingredients through to distillation and maturation, while sampling a selection of whisky, new make spirit and rum along the way. The experience also delves into the fascinating history and folklore of Blackness, including its links to Mary Queen of Scots, the Jacobites and Rabbie Burns.
And the visit doesn't have to end with the final dram. The distillery is home to The Lobster Pot, an adjoining pub and restaurant serving home-cooked food and locally sourced seafood, making it easy to turn a distillery tour into a full day out.

Venue of the Month - The Globe Inn
Steeped in more than 400 years of history, The Globe Inn in Dumfries is one of Scotland's most fascinating whisky destinations. Established in 1610 and once a favourite haunt of Robert Burns, the historic inn preserves many original features and artefacts connected to the famous poet, including his chair.
Today, visitors can explore the rooms where Burns ate, slept and entertained, before enjoying excellent food and a whisky list boasting more than 250 bottles of malts and blends from around the world. With Michelin-experienced chefs, local produce and a choice of dining and tasting experiences, The Globe Inn offers plenty of reasons to linger.

Malt of the Month - Glen Moray 2008 Manzanilla Cask Finish
Our Malt of the Month is a rather special Glen Moray: an 18-year-old single malt distilled in 2008 and finished for six years in a Manzanilla sherry cask. The result is a fascinating combination of sweet Speyside character, rich sherry influence and a distinctly savoury, spicy finish. With Glen Moray's reputation for exploring the influence of different casks, this is a dram that's well worth discovering.
