Distillery and Whisky News September 2024 - Isle of Jura
Hello whisky lovers, and welcome to our September edition of Distillery and Whisky News.
Summer may be over, but there is still plenty of reasons to get out and about and enjoy all that Scotland's whisky distilleries have to offer.
A visit to Perthshire, for example, is never a bad idea. Even less so when you book a spot on Aberfeldy Distillery's new Warehouse Experience. The experience is located in the original 1898 warehouse buildings at the historic Charles Doig-designed distillery in the heart of the Perthshire Highlands.
After a tour of the on-site archive museum and production stages, the Warehouse Experience begins in the Old Filling Store with the Aberfeldy Single Malt casking and maturation story.
From there, guests enter the Blenders Bothy to understand the four stage ageing process of the Dewar's Double Double range. Here guests are able to meet an avatar of six-time International Whisky Competition Master Blender of the Year, Stephanie Macleod, using the latest projection technology.
Sounds great fun, the perfect way to spend an autumnal day.
Until next time...
Distillery Of The Month: Isle of Jura
Established in 1810 and reborn in 1963, the Jura Distillery has brought life back to the island and the community. And what a success it’s been. Today, almost every family on the island has a member who works in our distillery, with our distillery or in whisky-related tourism.
Because Jura matters more to the people who make it, you can taste their dedication in every sip. We could tell you all about it here, but nothing quite beats discovering our island home for yourself.
While visiting, treat yourself to the Jura Whisky Distillery Exclusives Tour which offers a very special chance to taste Jura whisky directly from some of the distillery's oldest casks. You will get the chance to taste one of the distillery's limited releases and three single cask distillery exclusives. A Jura Whisky glass will also be included.
Find out more about the Isle of Jura Distillery, their whisky and their tours on their dedicated page on the DistilleryTours.scot website.
Venue of the Month: Aberturret Estate House
Hidden within the woodland area of The Hosh, and surrounded by elegant gardens overlooking the River Turret, Glenturret Distillery has recently introduced The Aberturret Estate House – a 19th century Dower house, formerly owned by the Murray Clan - which is now available as a private hideaway solely for exclusive use.
With six bedrooms, accommodating 12 guests, nestled in the picturesque heart of rural Perthshire, the Aberturret Estate House seamlessly blends the allure of country living with the refinement of a luxurious retreat.
The Aberturret Estate House offers guests of The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant a relaxing overnight experience and is within walking distance of The Glenturret Distillery and public walking routes.

DistilleryTours Podcast: Lindores Abbey Distillery
In this episode we speak to Drew McKenzie Smith, Managing Director of Lindores Abbey Distillery and Custodian of Lindores Abbey!
Drew talks about growing up on the farm at Lindores Abbey and how, after a stint working away in England, he and his wife Helen returned to create the distillery we know today.
We learn that it was thanks to Michael Jackson's book, Scotland and its Whiskies that the family found out about the Abbey's historic links with whisky production. And how that history continues to play a part in the whisky produced by the distillery now.
Drew also talks about how the Abbey's French-born monks have played a part in the casks used for the distillery's exciting new release - Thiron, which will be available to buy in the distillery's Visitor Centre, online and from selected UK Stockists from 12th September 2024.
DistilleryTours Malt of the Month: Glenturret 12 Year Old
For our Malt of the Month we learn more about Glenturret Distillery's 12 Year Old Single Malt 2024 Release.
The Glenturret 12 Years Old whisky sits at the heart of the distillery's 2024 Core Range. American and European Oak, with influences from both Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez seasoned casks, create a rich expression.
The Perfect Serve: The Palmory
The Perfect Serve will titillate your tastebuds with a delicious whisky cocktail featured every month...
September's Perfect Serve uses Lagg Single Malt - a deliciously soft, peaty whisky which works wonderfully well in this sweet, tart and incredibly refreshing cocktail.
