Distillery and Whisky News April 2023 - Glen Moray

Hello whisky lovers, and welcome to our April edition of Distillery and Whisky News.

The clocks have sprung forward and while that doesn't guarantee better weather, it does mean the lighter nights of spring have arrived. And doesn't that just make everything seem better?

Easter is round the corner, and I have already put in an order with the Easter Bunny for a Terry's Chocolate Orange egg, I did this off the back of reading that it pairs nicely with Lindores MCDXCIV. If you want to read more about pairing easter eggs with malts then check out this piece by the Scotch Whisky Experience!

If you've plans to get away this Easter then make our Plan Your Trip page your first port of call to help with planning your perfect distillery tour experience.

Distillery Of The Month: Glen Moray

Glen Moray Distillery

Located in the heart of Speyside, the Glen Moray distillery has been producing fine single malt since 1897. The locally malted barley and pure waters of the River Lossie combine to produce this delicate well-balanced whisky.

We interviewed Iain Allan, Global Brand Ambassador, for our podcast in August 2020, when he told us an amusing if slightly scary story about the history of the Distillery and its proximity to the old site of Elgin’s public hangings.

In its long history, Glen Moray has been distilled in time honoured fashion, by hand. Never rushed or forced, always in balance, steady and with care.

This constancy and dedication is characterised by Glen Moray’s people - in its lifetime, the distillery has known only five distillery managers. Know-how, myths and trade secrets passed through the generations to ensure every drop has the same light character as the last.

Find out more about Glen Moray their whisky and tours on their dedicated page on the DistilleryTours.scot website.

Venue of the month: The Snug At Speyside Distillery

The Snug at Speyside Distillery

Opened in summer 2018, The Snug is Speyside Distillery’s Visitor Experience in the heart of Aviemore. Visitors can experience award-winning craft spirits on a daily basis, open seven days a week.

Built in a style to reflect that of Speyside Distillery itself – old wooden beams, stone walls and a hand-crafted bar made from whisky barrel staves - you are welcomed into a cosy environment where you can browse the store for gifts, arts, crafts and spirits or treat yourself to a dram, book a tasting event or a distillery visit.

Find out more about The Snug on its dedicated page at the DistilleryTours website.
