Distillery and Whisky News June 2024 - Benriach

Hello whisky lovers, and welcome to our June edition of Distillery and Whisky News.

I think we can safely say summer it well on its way, despite the (seemingly endless) rain, temperatures are rising and that means it is the perfect time to start considering a whisky adventure. So where will you head? Speyside, Islay, the Highlands? The choice is yours, as they say, but head over to our Plan Your Trip page where you will find plenty to inspire your next trip.

And remember, Father's day is looming on 16th June so make sure to check out our fantastic range of whisky gifts over in DistilleryTours online shop.

Until next time...

Distillery Of The Month: Benriach

Benriach Distillery

Ruggedly beautiful, the Benriach Distillery draws its water from the mineral-rich aquifer deep beneath the grounds.

Benriach is a hidden Speyside gem distilling in three distinct styles - classic unpeated, Highland peated and triple distilled - and crafting layers of diverse flavour with our eclectic range of cask types from around the world. To discover and enjoy Benriach visit them at their home in Speyside.

Sherry, Port, Madeira, Marsala are a selection of some of the cask types used to mature the whisky at Benriach. Following a tour of the distillery on the Grape and Grain Tasting you will uncover the breadth of casks maturing inside Warehouse 13. Uncover years worth of eclectic cask use as you wander through the distillery's oldest warehouse exploring the wine casks used by Master Blender, Rachel Barrie.

Your visit will conclude with an exploration of the flavours created from the different wine casks and a tasting of five limited releases and single cask bottlings, all to be savoured with a food pairing.

Find out more about the Benriach Distillery, their whisky and their tours on their dedicated page on the DistilleryTours.scot website.

Venue of the month: Angus Alchemy

Angus Alchemy takes innovation into outstretched arms and gives it a big, sweaty, end-of-the-night embrace. Maybe for just a wee bit longer than is comfortable! Its owners say: "We took a risk and built a distillery on our own terms featuring cutting-edge design, operations… and, of course, high-quality spirits. In return, we’re able to use words like ‘cutting-edge’ and ‘high-quality’ like some kind of Silicon valley wunderkind giving a keynote."

At Angus Alchemy you will find a down-to-earth brand of progressiveness where the focus is on making world-class gin, rum, moonshine and offering up an unforgettable visitor experience. When it comes to tasting experiences, this is where things really open up at Angus Alchemy. With more spirits than an exorcist’s ‘to do’ list, every visit is as unique as the stuff that lines the bar.

We like the sound of The Albannach where you will enjoy a flight of five carefully chosen whiskies from each Scottish region.

Find out more about Angus Alchemy on its dedicated page at the DistilleryTours website.
